We specialise in VW to Subaru engine conversion for your classic volkswagen. Replacing air-cooled engines for a modern flat 4 water-cooled Subaru engine.
We use Subaru engines because they have the same flat four configuration as a Volkswagen engine and are therefore an ideal fit and minimal modification is required.
An engine conversion will offer more reliability, better fuel economy, the option of a front and rear heater and a lot more power. No longer will you have to take a run up for hills!
We offer a range of engine options to suit your vehicle. Full drive in drive out conversions as well as individual parts and full DIY kits.

EJ201 in AIR-COOLED VEHICLES
EJ201 (2.0ltr) Subaru Engine conversion Splitscreen, Bay Window Air-cooled T25’s. This takes approximately 2-3 weeks. The engine will be fully serviced. In addition we will strip and clean the outside of the engine block and powder coat the detailed areas in black. This conversion costs £7500.00 plus VAT.

EJ201 in T25 WATER-COOLED VEHICLES
EJ201 (2.0ltr) Subaru Engine Conversion can be fitted in VW T25 campers. Subaru Engine conversions in T25 watercooled costs £6500.00 + VAT. (The price is cheaper as we don’t need a radiator/fan and as many parts).

Newer EJ204 in T25 Campers
Our EJ204 (2.0ltr) Subaru Engine Conversion can be fitted into T25’s campers. This engine is a more modern engine, bigger in size & power. You gain more torque early on in the rev range due to variable valve timing & gain an extra 30bhp from this engine without compromising on miles to the gallon. Subaru engine conversions in T25 water-cooled costs £7500 + VAT (T25 and air-cooled costs £8000 + VAT)
OPTIONAL EXTRAS
We offer various add-ons to your VW to Subaru engine conversion. These include powder coating and/or silicone hoses in a colour of your choice & Chroming of the inlet manifold & alternator.
The conversion can be as dressed or subtle as you wish! Please request a full quotation for all extras.
The last and most significant extra is a Heater. For most customers a heater is a valued extra, making use of the Subaru water system. This costs £265 + VAT for the rear and £375 + VAT to the front of the vehicle piped under the cab floor and through the original vents at the front.

Do you fancy having ago at doing a VW to Subaru engine conversion yourself?
We offer a comprehensive DIY install kit to make the job a little easier. As part of the kit you receive every major component required to get your Volkswagen running under Subaru power.
Aluminium radiator & Scoop, adaptor plate and flywheel, wiring harness (exchange ), full stainless steel exhaust system, header tank etc etc and not forgetting the little stuff too! Every, nut bolt washer and jubilee clip is also included.
For those interested in the kit we also recommend a trip down to the workshop where we can talk you through the installation process.

As we’re sure you can appreciate we get asked the same questions time and time again about Subaru engine conversions and other adaptions. To save you the effort of having to call us up to ask the same questions again we’ve provided this handy little FAQ page so that you’ll be able to get the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions. How long does the conversion take?
2 to 3 weeks
What fuel economy can I expect?
This varies greatly on gearbox, tyre size and driving style but you can expect in the region of 30 mpg plus.
What BHP do the Subaru engines offer?
This varies greatly with model & ECU map but as a rule of thumb a 2.0lt EJ201 produces 150 bhp and a 2.0 EJ204 180 bhp.
Do I get to keep my old air-cooled engine?
Yes you do, its yours and you are free to do as you wish with it. If you are interested in selling it we would consider taking it in part exchange.
What body modifications are needed?
Minimal is the answer, a few holes for water pipes, wiring loom and engine brace. For full specifics give us a call.
What Warranty is offered?
All of the parts we manufacture ourselves are Warranty for a full 12 months. The engine units themselves are guaranteed for 90 days. But we’re always happy for you to callback with any questions and queries you may have and resolve any issues you may have.
Are the engines rebuilt?
No, they are carefully inspected and checked in a running car with history prior to removal. They are compression tested and leak down tested prior to installation. Fully rebuilt engines are available at extra cost.
Are the engines serviced?
Yes they are full serviced, new cam belt and tensions, water pump, thermostat and all engine consumables are replaced with new; Air filter, plugs, leads , O rings, oil filter etc. All new gaskets and ancillaries, Oil and antifreeze.
Can Subaru engines be fitted to lowered van?
Yes they can, the Subaru engine sits in the engine bay roughly the same as the original aircooled so you can go lower than stock. If you have air ride we would need to inspect the van first to make sure it will work with the set up you have.
